AROMATHERAPY - THE ART AND SCIENCE

What is aromatherapy? How do essential oils affect our body? How do I use aromatherapy safely? These are the questions that come to us daily.

Well, I was fortunate to start my aroma studies pursuits in 1994 with these questions in mind with a clinic to practice called Self Heal Herbal Centre in Edmonton.

The professionals at the Self Heal Herbal Centre clinic consisted of naturopath Dr. R. Pearman, Herbalist R. Rogers, BSc, and a self-taught aromatherapist, Laurie Rogers. Robert Rogers, now a Grant McEwan instructor, practiced his skills and knowledge with weekly herbal aromatherapy classes to the public while I worked for him. It was a unique shop with a purpose to help clients start their self-care journey for a lifetime. And that is exactly how my employment and self-care program started in 1994 – it was an amazing, new world for me. And my questions were answered, and many more are asked even today in 2017!

By 2003, my need to learn more about aromatherapy started my global two-year research. So, I graduated in July 2006 from an aromatherapy program offered at WCIA (B.C). Bev is the owner of WCIA and was on the boards of BCAPA and BCAOA from the beginning for 10 years, while I stepped into this history in 2004 in Alberta. I was exploring the wonders of aromas and felt I was in good hands to learn from her knowledge. Metro Continuing Education became the next step to learning how to do workshops, so after 33 hours of classes, I had a basis to start teaching adults the wonders of nature’s gifts.

By 2007, Alberta Aromatherapy was a recognized school with Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and by 2015, we created continuing education courses called  Acupressure & Essential Oil Therapy for four conditions that massage therapists face in their practice fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel, TMJ, and frozen shoulder. This has helped bridge the gap and uplifted many practitioners to the possibilities…

Today, as a full-time teacher and owner of Alberta Aromatherapy Institute and in membership with the BCAPA (British Columbia Association of Practitioner Aroma Therapist), NHPC (Natural Health Practitioners of Canada), and MTAA, we plan to continue to create more acupressure courses and essential oils for continuing education for the NHPC, RMTA, and MTAA. We offer an aromatherapy program, 690 hours, and courses for aroma and acupressure therapy, from aroma 101 to aroma 401 in a 15 week format. Expiry date is two years

Aromatherapy

An introduction from Alberta Aromatherapy Institute owner. In 2006, I graduated aroma therapist certificate course 545 hours. Although, I was fortunate to start my aroma studies pursuits in 1994 with a clinic called Self Heal Herbal Centre on the Southside of Edmonton. The professionals at the clinic consisted of naturopath Dr. R. Pearman; Herbalist R. Rogers, BSc and a self-taught aroma therapist. It was a unique shop with a purpose to help clients start their self-care journey for a lifetime. And that is exactly how my employment and serious self-care program started in 1994.

By 2003, my need to learn more about aroma therapy started my global two-year research. I graduated from aromatherapy certificate offered on-line from a British Columbia massage therapist/instructor school call WCIA and graduated 2006. The course was trademarked in 2010 for R.A./EOT designation by the government.

By 2010, the aroma therapists in B.C. were granted a government trade mark for Canada called Essential Oil therapy (EOT)or R.A. registered aromatherapist. It was a tremendous recognition from the British Columbia government; as this is the second government on the globe to grant this trade mark but with this responsibility comes the curriculum requirements by government standard to use the titled Essential Oil therapist EOT and R.A. designation. So, here I am offering my knowledge, experience and curriculum requirements as an aromatherapy instructor. By 2007, Alberta Aromatherapy was a recognized school with Natural Health Practitioners of Canada. This has helped bridge the gap and uplifted many practitioners to the possibilities using essential oils. We offer credit courses for MTAA, RMTA and NHPC.

Aroma 101 to Aroma 401 completes the package for essential oil curriculum online (660 hours)- curriculum and trademark (EOT/R.A.) use. Textbooks are extra cost.

Clinical studies/case studies/practicum – all courses are expected to include a requirement for thirty (30) case studies upon completion of all Levels. 60 Essential Oils profiled
